hi all
Today’s blog is about those lovely critters we all may like to avoid or find a natural way to repel everything from insects to rodents from our home and trips out. with natural and holistic methods

As a Homeopath, Naturopath and Complimentary Alternative Medicine Practitioner I refuse to use chemical sprays and over the past decade i have collected the following advice i am sharing with you
Obviously, nothing is 100% guaranteed
do i recommend you research, see if the recipe is good for you and then proceed
here are my favourite recipes that I have used for many years
SPIDER REPELLENT SPRAY
This works wonders to keep spiders out of your home or outbuildings and is also great to spray on garden furniture etc. I once used this recipe in an outhouse for over two years and didn’t find one single spider! I can honestly say from my personal experience it works 100%!
the ingredients are very simple. All you need is distilled water. (boiled water will do) and add 20 drops of peppermint essential oil to 100 mil of water placing a few drops of washing up liquid to disperse the essential oil into the water place this peppermint water into a spray bottle and spray areas you would like to treat from ceiling to floor, allow the space to dry efficiently. Use immediately or within two weeks. Stored in a dark cool dry place away from children. Do not spray around pets, move pets into a separate room while you spray and allow the room to dry before pets enter. If you want to keep the spray for long periods of time I recommend you mix half water and half vodka alcohol to preserve the spray

ALL PURPOSE INSECT REPELLENT SPRAY
This recipe is wonderful as a great all rounder which can help to repel most insects and even rodents, check out each essential oil and choose a formula that will work for you:
Use a base of yarrow tea or tincture and add in up to 20 drops of essential oils per 100ml of water or water/alcohol base . YARROW is used very effectively to repel ticks, mosquitoes, and black flies, A recent US Army study showed yarrow tincture to be more effective than DEET as an insect repellent, it is recommended you try a diluted tincture of yarrow (Alchellia millefolium) flowers directly on all exposed skin.
rosemary oil (or brew rosemary infusion and use as a base)
cedarwood oil, this is such to be one of the most essential of all of the essential oils: This oil contains phenols that are very strong and repels fleas, mosquitoes, roaches, rats, mice and even snakes
lavender oil (or bud infusion)
citronella essential oil is a good all rounder
peppermint essential oil: works to repel other critters like aphids, bedbugs, ants, roaches, flies, fleas, spiders, stink bugs, wasps, lice, rats & mice
eucalyptus essential oil / lemon eucalyptus oil repels mosquitoes. sandflies, ticks and mice
tea tree essential oil repels mosquitoes, flies, and biting midges and is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic
lemon oil essential oil: repels Lots of pests from insects to rodents which are repulsed by citrus scents, and safe to use in gardens to repel aphids and ants, and it also works along the perimeter of your home, inside your home, and around your yard to repel critters like mosquitoes, flies, bees, wasps, hornets, and more (avoid where cats are)
clove essential oil : clove oil is also an effective and natural insecticide, killing insects on contact when sprayed on them directly, also deters mice
oregano oil (proven to kill ticks and prevent limes disease)
You can also optionally addradish ferment (chop up radishes, allow to bubble and ferment) then add a few drops of this ferment into the spray
put in a spray bottle
spray on yourselves or in rooms, safe for application on dogs, avoid the eyes face and nose
more advice:
MOTHS: YOU CAN MODIFY THE ABOVE SPRAY SPECIFICALLY FOR MOTH REPELLENT. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ADD CEDARWOOD OIL TO THIS BLEND AND YOU CAN EVEN USE CEDARWOOD RINGS OR BALLS IN YOUR CLOSET. MOTHS are repelled by the following essential oils: cedar wood, lavender, peppermint, neem, tea tree & eucalyptus
MIDGES are repelled by geranium
SANDFLY are repelled by eucalyptus, lavender, citronella & lemon
BLACK FLY are repelled by peppermint oil
MICE are repelled by geranium
Dryer Sheets
Dryer sheets produce a strong, potent chemical scent, and repel pests such as mice, rats, mosquitoes and insects Leaving dryer sheets around can help reduce the amount of insects coming into your home, place along entry and exit points, stuff into potential rodent holes, or place anywhere you notice unwanted activity
Mothballs
regular mothballs are to be avoided indoors (such as in bedrooms) as they contain nasty chemicals and are best avoided, but could be used in outhouses and garages, they will help to repel pests from moths to spiders to bats, but they also work well for rodent control. Similar to dryer sheets, you can place mothballs around entry and exit points, near cracks and crevices, and even inside potential rodent holes to help keep them bay. Note: they can be dangerous to children and pets if ingested. A good alternative to mothballs is camphor, you cos. get this in block form, which is very strong smelling (but better than moth ball smell!) always keep camphor away from children and pets, you could hang in wardrobes in a cotton bag out of reach
Apple Cider Vinegar and Water
this all natural and safe to use all around your home and anywhere, repels insects, ticks, mites, fleas, bugs and rodents but won’t kill them. The acidity and odor of apple cider vinegar is an excellent natural pest repellent. Always mix with water to create a repellent spray
spray: mix equal parts raw apple cider vinegar and water in a bottle and spray onto pets or bedding, surrounding areas , any smell will subside. you can add 1/2 tsp sea salt to this recipe
internal acv: twice a week in your water & pets water 1-2 tablespoons (decrease dose if your pet won’t drink)
FOR BITES AND SKIN CONDITIONS apply raw acv half diluted with distilled water and dab onto the skin . acv is good for fungal skin conditions, dermatitis, mange and other skin problems . and for pets it will help cleanse, deodorise and condition their coat
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper is a strong spice that irritates the eyes, nose, and throat of any potential pest, including rodents and insects.
You can make your own cayenne pepper spray by combining cayenne pepper and essential oils with water in a spray bottle to repel insects or mice, or you can simply sprinkle cayenne pepper around entry and exit points in your home to keep pests from entering.
Neem oil
is used as a natural remedy to repel and remove all insects including ticks. You can use neem oil diluted in oil. To use, add several drops to the palm of your hand and rub on exposed skin. It can also be diluted and mixed with coconut oil, olive oil or other light carrier oil. When diluted, it’s safe for dogs.
Garlic
a natural, inexpensive and safe way to repel insects is to eat garlic. When garlic is added to your diet, it enters the blood stream, repelling biting insects, there are also garlic capsules that are odorless. Insects will hate the smell and taste of garlic and go elsewhere. CAUTION! this method may take up to a week before it repels insects and always have a break where you use no garlic in your diet . you can use garlic with dogs to repel fleas (checkout ‘dogs naturally’ online magazine)
Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous earth is a great remedy against most insect infestation, it’s best used when the area is dry. If not, you’ll have to reapply after a downpour. The application should be done periodically until the results are noticeable. always use a mask in a well ventilated area and proceed with caution. never inhale DE
TICKS
ive lived in tick infested woodland for 3.5years
and I can honestly say thatnothing is as good as visual check! I know we can get a bit boring checking for ticks every day but it is essential, basically if you are in a heavily infested area, nothing will work 100% (topical or internal) ticks are fierce and many and they want to feed
TICK CHECKS search and remove ticks before 48 hours, as the risk of disease if removed soon is said to be drastically reduced, be vigilant and thoroughly check yourself and your animals daily
WHAT DIDNT WORK FOR ME
- sound device ‘tickless’ * = I found it totally ineffective and found ticks embedded right next to the pet anti tick emitter device (keep your money)
- coconut oil application good for fleas but not so good for ticks, can help repel ticks *
ANTI TICK SPRAY RECIPE mix 50% yarrow tea infusion with 25% acv application with 25% alcohol
add in essential oils: neem oil, eucalyptus which is a known as an effective tick repeller and killer. combine 4 ounces of purified or distilled water to a small spray bottle along with 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Shake before using and spray on skin, pant cuffs, and shoes. Safe for use on dogs (eucalyptus oil must be diluted with the water before application on dogs).
TICK REPEL OIL
make your own tick repellent by adding 10 to 15 drops of clove bud essential oil to 1 ounce of oil.
OTHER
- garlic in food helps repel
TICK HOMEOPATHY PROTOCOL
if you have been bitten save the tick in some 80% alcohol this can be used to make a homeopathic medicine or use to identify the tick if required
treat tick bites homeopathically with ledum
ticks are best removed with a tick removed or fine tipped tweezers , do not stress out a tick, drown it or burn it or it may ‘regurgitate’ which is how it passes on any infections. simply gently & steadily pull out the tick and put it in 80% alcohol in a jar
DRESSING EFFECTIVELY whee we’d n going to tick infested areas dress appropriately:
Wear long pants
tuck your trousers into your socks
Wear covered shoes / sneakers
fasten a long-sleeved shirt or jacket at the wrist with buttons or elastic.
ensure all clothing covers well
Wearing light-colored clothing: helps make identifying ticks on the clothing easier
wear a brimmed hat and cover as much of your head as possible
BEFORE YOU GO OUT
Treat exposed skin with the repellent of your choice
spray clothing and animals with repellent
WHEN YOU GET HOME
brush down all clothing outside before you enter home
after you've had a chance to settle down or undress, check yourself carefully for any ticks that might have managed to hitch a ride.
Check your skin and scalp for ticks when you return home from your outing, as ticks can be as tiny as sesame seeds and are dark in color. Have a friend look at areas of skin you can’t readily see, such as your back. Make sure to check between your toes, fingers, and behind your ears.
Wash your clothing in hot water and dry on a hot setting.
A NOTE ON LYMES DISEASE It’s time to stop fearing Lyme disease and see it for what it is … a signal that there was already something wrong with you or your animal / dog. The more toxic you are. the more likely you are to suffer an exaggerated response to Lyme disease.
Research shows that 95% of tick bites are likely to have either no symptoms or mild flu-like symptoms. For the 5% of bites who get really sick, how can you blame the tick when the other 95% do fine? Take any worry and refocus it on improving your immune health instead by avoiding chemical medications, vaccines and eat a good fresh diet. A tick usually needs to remain on a person’s body for 36–48 hours
Trusted Source before it can transmit. For this reason, people should conduct frequent tick checks on their bodies once they have been outside.
FLEAS
COCONUT OIL works wonders! Coconut oil contains Lauric acid, which can kill fleas successfully, fleas do not have lungs, they breathe through small openings called spiracles. Basically Lauric acid clogs up the openings that fleas and ticks breath through, it’s impossible for them to clear it, they suffocate and die. The time can range from 40 minutes up to 3–4 hours. If you wish to test it for yourself, get a clear plastic bag and smear a little oil on the inside of it, then comb a few fleas off your animal and drop them in the bag, watch and wait. They’ll all be dead within a few hours, you can do this with any flea product to test it before you use it on your animal.
DIRECTIONS
Get some 100% coconut oil, you can get it in most supermarkets
take a small amount of it while it’s cold and hard, rub it through your hands and then rub it into your skin or through your animals fur, rub it on evenly and concentrate on the flea areas where you are being bitten such as legs in the ankles for humans or for dogs,, tail, back legs and private areas, stomach and armpits.
Leave the oil on, don’t wash it off
re-apply it when you need to or when you see your animal scratching again, if you have a big flea problem use every few days.
FLEA FOUR PRONG PROTOCOL
Feed raw fresh crushed garlic, golden paste and acv daily
Spray bedding areas and pets with diluted acv daily
Rub coconut oil on every day
clean environment daily (hoover) and wash bedding regular, keep environment clean and remove clutter
You can carefully dust DE diatomaceous earth into bedding, ensure you wear a mask while applying and ventilate the space efficiently

protecting your house
here is a general guideline to keep
pests at bay
vacuum regularly
remove clutter, especially from the floor
seal holes & gaps
wash bedding and soft furnishings
steam regularly
use natural repellents regularly such as deterrent sprays in your home or outhouses
clean regularly, remove all rubbish from your environment, especially in areas that are warm and dark
bins: use boric acid and pests visiting your target garbage cans, apply some boric acid around or close to the can should help drive away these pests.
noise: for rodents leave a radio on, they don’t like human noise
ENERGETIC REASONS
Obviously sometimes life can be full of critters at no fault of our own, our children can bring back headlines from schools, our dog could pick up fleas from the beach, sometimes it can be that simple
but sometimes if you are experiencing chronic or constant infestations then you may need to consider why!
there might be an energetic reason why this might be happening
the first port of call is to do an energy cleanse starting a physical cleanse on your environment, then do an emotional mental and spiritual cleanse releasing any reason why you are stuck in a loop of infestation
Cleanse your diet and water supplies to raise your health vibration of yourself or your pets
hope this helps
